The Consumer Technology Association has pledged $1 million to disaster relief efforts in California, Florida, Puerto Rico and Texas as well as efforts to help Las Vegas heal after last year's deadly mass shooting.
The donations will go to 10 organizations in total. A total of $500,000 will head to Puerto Rico to help the island recover from the devastation left by Hurricane Maria. Another $200,000 will also be directed to Texas and Florida to help those states recover from last year's hurricane season. An additional $200,000 is going to California, which has been ravaged by recent wildfires.
CTA is also donating a total of $100,000 to two organizations in Las Vegas working with victims of last year's mass shooting, which left 58 people dead and hundreds more injured.
"We represent American companies, and following the devastation and tragedy we wanted to help our fellow citizens get back on their feet as quickly as possible," CTA CEO Gary Shapiro said. "We recognize that no amount of resources will erase the suffering these communities have experienced. However, our industry is committed to supporting the hundreds of volunteers and affected individuals overcome these difficult times."
